Description

It is expected that extreme cold will change and weaken the “voice” of most everything, but true to form, even zero Celsius could not diminish this Vineland flier. The 2021 Elevation Riesling was just being brought in from outside and its cold stabilization. The wine presented in a heavily frosted glass and yet it sang like spring Lark. The strong melody consisted of the signature lemon-lime zest, clover honey, sun-warmed apricot and peach compote. The undertones of wet river stone and freshly crumbled earth minerality perfectly supported the concentrated, and yet balanced fruit elements. The bright acidity offered a centering beam around which the wine assembled. A gentle peck of sweetness gave way to a dry finish that left me seeking a splash of the song once again. Like the Lark delivering its joyous tune in full flight, so does this soaring vintage from the St. Urban Vineyard.
